My 15mm Civil War Miniatures
Before I got back into Star Wars in '97, I was quite the Civil War buff.  I painted approximately 3000  15mm (3/5ths of an inch tall) lead and white metal miniatures and mounted them to use with the Johnny Reb rules.  I did all these when I was 18 to 26 years old so that pretty much explains their amateur quality.  I also wasn't quite that concerned with historical accuracy, either.  My goal was a Far Western campaign such as Pea Ridge/Elkhorn Tavern or Grant's campaigns in Mississippi and Tennessee so most of the regiment's uniforms reflect that.  However, most of the regiments I painted early on were from the East, including a lot of the most famous units.  Later on, my skills improved, I started finding better quality figures and I started trying to stay true to the Western uniforms.  Even so, I got bored after a while and started painting conjectural regiments.  Most are based on real regiments where the uniforms are described but no pictures or examples of the uniform exists (lots of Zouaves and Jaegers). So they either could have or probably did exist.  I've also had them put away for the last five years so my memory is a little fuzzy on what exactly the regiment is supposed to be.
These are pretty much the training I used for my customizing, in fact my early customs were done parallel to the last of these units, even using the same paint and brushes.  If I were to do them know, hoo boy, I could do a much more accurate and detailed job, possibly museum quality.  1991-1998
Confederate brigades (in the Johhny Reb rules and real life a brigade consisted of 3-6, but usually 5 regiments) in formation.  Wheat's Tigers are in the front of the one on the right and a butternut regiment (probably from Alabama) is at the lead on the left.
The biggest Confederate brigade I have and the most uniformly equipped.  They're intended to be an early war brigade from the Carolinas, explaining their uniformity and their kepis.
A rear view of some more Confederate brigades with an Indian brigade (supposed to be like Stand Watie's units) from Oklahoma closest to the camera.
To the right, my entire Union army.  For the sake of clarity I didn't try to make a realistic battlefield with my extensive scratchbuilt set of fences, housese, etc.  I think there's about 1100 individual figures in this photo, not including horses, cannons and the artilleryment.
Some artillery and a closeup of the biggest Federal brigade.
