Special Edition
Spirit of  Anakin Skywalker
This was a commission, otherwise its not really a subject I would have tackled.  Lets just say that every year since buying the THX Laserdiscs I appreciate them more and more.  To the left is the painted hardcopy, which for a pretty much expendable part of the mold making process, came out looking pretty cool.  The goal of the project was to get a ghostly looking Anakin in the style of the OTC Spirit Obi Wan Kenobi.  So I cast him in an amber color and then painted him with extremely thinned down paints.  I then set that off with a gloss clear coat with some aluminum flakes mixed in to make him look spectral.  I also did a green cast to match the Yoda and Obi Wan from the Cinema Scene and then a purple version to match the actual movie appearance.  Please forgive the pictures, its very hard to take good photos of clear casts with my camera.  Believe me, they look much, much better in person.  February 2005
An early paint test, the base amber cast that would end up being the final OTC version and the finished, unairbrushed purple cast
Both of these finished casts were lightly airbrushed to give them that oh so special Ga-ga-GHOST! appearance.  The purple one looks pretty close (but not as transparent) to its actual appearance but the green one really washed out, its much cooler in person.
This is the OTC version.  It looks much better in person but its still pretty cool in the pics.  Pardon the multiple copies but some are with flash, some without and some in front of my lamps and some behind.  I tried to show  both the detail and transparency but its very hard to do.  I may update with pics taken in sunlight.
All the casts and test copies I had to make to get the the three good copies (in the back) and the copies to figure out the OTC paint
On the left, the finished version, on the right the (pretty good) paint test.  The eyes were the hardest part to get right (they don't look as crazy in person as the finished copies do, that's from the flash)
